《"He treated me friendly"是錯的》別被騙！7個有「ly」卻不是副詞的英文單字

我們有機會請外籍老師來談一談最常在課堂上聽到哪些錯誤，而這個錯誤是學生自己沒有意識到的？

其中一位老師特別提到 ”friendly”，例如：
 

他對我很友善。(X) He treated me friendly.

她友善地對我微笑。(X) She smiled at me friendly. 
 

我們友善地歡迎客人。(X) We friendly welcomed the guests. 

這幾個句子之所以都錯，是因為錯把”friendly”當成了副詞。這個字以"ly”結尾，看起來就像quickly、

slowly、effectively、carefully，讓人誤以為是副詞。我們先來談談friendly這個字怎麼用得對、用得

好，再來看還有哪些以"ly"結尾的字其實不是副詞。

一、Friendly怎麼用？
 

對某人友善，我們一般用be friendly to/towards，例如：

他對我很友善。(O) He is friendly to me. 
他對新人不太友善。(O) He's not very friendly towards newcomers.
她友善地對我微笑。(O) She smiled at him in a friendly way.
我們友善地歡迎客人。(O) We welcomed the guests in a friendly manner.

用得稍微有點變化，可以當交情，或朋友關係：

我和一位青年創業家交上了朋友。(O) I got friendly with a young entrepreneur.

我老闆和Mike交情特別好。(O) My boss is particularly friendly with Mike.

Friendly近幾年來流行一種用法，是把friendly放在名詞後面，像user-friendly、environment-friendly、family friendly。"-friendly可以解釋成「有利、方便、適合」的意義。例如：

我們喜歡這間餐廳，因為它適合家庭聚餐。(O) We like this restaurant because it is family-friendly. 

二、看起來像副詞其實是形容詞
 

以下這些字其實是「名詞+ly」，變成了形容詞，不要弄錯：

1.打官司既昂貴又耗時。
Suing somebody can be costly and time-consuming.

2.口味超棒的。
The taste and aroma are heavenly.

3. 我一個人，但不寂寞。
I am alone but not lonely.

4.如果不是你及時幫忙，我一定辦不到。
But for your timely help, I wouldn't make it.

5.好棒的驚喜呀！
What a lovely surprise！

6.我們希望這場抗議平和有秩序。
We hope the demonstration will be conducted in a peaceful and orderly fashion.
